Almost 300 international visitors from over 40 countries are expected to gather in Kunming, Yunnan province, in the hope of injecting new energy and focus upon the Southwestern province's economic growth, according to the Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Yunnan Province.

The 2017 South-Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF), due to be held from June 11 to 18, will work in tandem with the Second Yunnan Conference on International of Professionals (YCIEP), held at Wanda Vista Kunming from June 8 to 12, in creating platforms for positive development.

The organizers have focused the conference around the idea of encouraging international professionals to promote Yunnan’s development. The event will include a signing ceremony, a forum on Belt and Road Initiative projects related to the region, and a job fair that seeks to attract talent from China and abroad.

"Compared to other (Chinese) provinces, Yunnan is weak in its development quality, speed, and structure due to the lack of talent," said He Jiangfeng, deputy director-general of the department. He hopes the conference will create a space for the province to attract international professionals.

The conference will also host forums across seven separate areas including tourism, health, the wild mushroom industry, professional skills, the development of plateau agriculture, and innovation across agriculture, science, and technology.

Experts from a range of institutions including Society Human Resource Management, China-ASEAN Research Center, and Kunming Pharmaceuticals Inc will be invited to give keynote speeches on subjects such as attracting talent for the purpose of economic development and transforming Yunnan's economy.

In addition, representatives from colleges, universities, and enterprises will attend the signing ceremony to confirm the development of their respective projects in Yunnan.

Ruan Zhaoqi, director of Yunnan Provincial Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, has revealed that a training base for technology managers will unveil its plaque on Kunming University of Science and Technology's Lianhua campus on June 6.

Furthermore, the provincial government is set to sign a five-year cooperation framework agreement with State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. The deal aims to attract international talent to Yunnan for the purpose of constructing and developing the region further.

The first YCIEP was also held in Kunming and attracted more than 200 international professionals from 33 countries and regions. Thus far, it has helped Yunnan attract 80 overseas high-end talents and 70 projects launched by talent.
