Highlights of the 2017 SSACEIF

Yunnan will carry out work based on the Belt and Road Initiative to give full play to its potential, said Li Jiming, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the provincial government.

Li made the comments in the run up to the 2017 South-Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF) from June 12 to 18, his office has created three platforms to enliven the international expo.

Lancang-Mekong Cooperation

At the 2017 SSACEIF, state officials and representatives from famous think tanks and enterprises will be invited to join a series of forums, round-table conferences and art activities, covering political security, economic sustainable development, interconnection, production, cross-border economy and poverty-relief.

The provincial government also plans to establish a permanent mechanism on the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, annually held during the South-Southeast Asia Expo and SSACEIF.

“Taking the 2017 SSACEIF as an ideal opportunity, we will accelerate the construction of the mechanism for Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, thus developing Yunnan into a gold brand for the mechanism,” Li said.

International Friendship Cities Pavilion

This year, the International Friendship Cities Pavilion will comprise of city image and enterprise exhibitions. Both exhibitions will show the friendly connection between Yunnan and other cities and seek more cooperation opportunities for enterprises.

“The activities held in the pavilion are targeted to expand the space for Yunnan to cooperate with South-Southeast Asia and the West,” Li said.

At present, Yunnan has made 76 friendship agreements within 33 countries spanning the world, from Asia to America.

Diplomatic relationships

At the 2017 SSACEIF, Yunnan will promote itself to the diplomats and demonstrate its economic and social development, ecological environment and cultural inheritance.

With the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the provincial foreign affairs office will organize a tour around Yunnan for the diplomats with the first call made at Wenshan Zhuang and Miao autonomous prefecture, Li added.
