Rosewood industry summit held in Kunming
The 2017 China (Kunming) Rosewood Industry Development Summit got underway in Kunming, Yunnan province on June 12, coinciding with the 2017 South Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF) which runs from June 12 to 18.
The Kunming Declaration was signed at the summit, which advocates the improvement of high use ratio rosewood and the combination of rosewood culture and traditional craftsmanship with innovative technologies.
Gao Shuxun, member of Yunnan CPC committee, called for the protection of rosewood in Yunnan and around the world, promoting its sustainable development, in his opening speech at the summit.
"Rosewood furniture makers should think about how to cut excellent works out of less rosewood, improving its usage ratio," said Yang Bo, director of the traditional furniture department of China National Furniture Association.
The sunshine, heat, water and land in Yunnan make it suitable for the growth of rosewood, especially in the city of Xishuangbanna. In 2016, the city's rosewood output hit 3.5 billion yuan ($515.08 million).
