Wuding-Yimen Expressway opens to traffic

Officially opening to traffic on June 29, the Wuding-Yimen Expressway is the first newly built expressway in the central Yunnan urban economic circle.

With an investment of 15.44 billion yuan ($2.28 billion), the six-lane expressway can accommodate speeds of 100 kilometers per hour.

Stretching 104.3 kilometers, the expressway begins at the Shibeihe Reservoir in Wuding county and passes through Lufeng county and Anning city (county-level), before terminating east of Yimen county.

As the first expressway to traverse Yimen, travel time from Wuding to Yimen has been reduced to one hour from an original three.

The expressway will play an important role in central Yunnan, accelerating industrial development, improving economic competitiveness and strengthening connections with southern Sichuan province.
