Famed Yunnan Baiyao explores big health industry
Yunnan Baiyao, a hundred-year-old pharmaceutical enterprise, has a time-honored “Gold-lettered Signboard". It has been a world famous brand for a century.
In 1902, Qu Huanzhang, a famous Yunnan doctor, created “Qu Huanzhang Treasure Pills” to stop bleeding, relieve pain and improve blood circulation. That’s “Yunnan Baiyao.”
One hundred years later, Yunnan Baiyao Group has become a pharmaceutical company with diversified businesses including medicines, medical apparatus and instruments, toiletries, cosmetic health products. Its brand value ranks at top of China’s pharmaceutical industry.
In the absence of any capital injection, data shows that Yunnan Baiyao’s core business income increased to 22.4 billion yuan in 2016 from 200 million yuan in 1999, a more than hundredfold growth. In 2016, its net profit reached 1.9 billion yuan.
In recent years, Yunnan Baiyao has creatively integrated traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese medicinal health maintenance into the research and development of modern daily use articles and health maintenance products. The company is marching down the path of integrating traditional Chinese medicine with modern healthy life and has won market acceptance.
Yunnan Baiyao has a long history of entering the Southeast Asia and other overseas markets. Zhang Yu, Health Marketing Director of the company, said that in Southeast Asia, paste, aerosol and other famous Yunnan Baiyao products can be seen in pharmacies and stores where there is a concentration of Chinese people.
The older generation of overseas Chinese is very familiar with the Yunnan Baiyao brand and the usefulness of its products. In an effort to increase its competitiveness in the international market, Yunnan Baiyao is currently exploring the area of ‘big health’ with health care products and foods.
