Diqing Prefecture to mark 60th anniversary

The Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest Yunnan Province is going to celebrate its 60th founding anniversary, avccording to a recent press conference in Kunming.

The celebration activities will feature ethnic singing, dancing and theatrical performances.

A ethnic carnival, promotions on tourism and investment, as well as exhibitions on local specialties, achievements, calligraphy and photography, will also be held.

Since its founding on September 13, 1957, Diqing prefecture has witnessed fast socio-economic progress. The prefectural GDP increased to 18.06 billion yuan in 2016 from 12.72 million yuan in 1957, up by 1419 times.

The growth rates ranks 3rd among Yunnnan’s 16 prefectures and cities.
