The 60th law-enforcement patrol along the Lancang-Mekong River -- jointly operated by relevant authorities of China, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar -- kicked off from Guanlei Port in Yunnan on July 25.

Combining sectional, full-line and night patrols, the activity looks to enhance law enforcement effectiveness in the region, with seven vessels and 200 officers dispatched by the four nations. The patrol will last for five days.

The four participating countries will designate commanding officers at patrol headquarters, to coordinate inspections, visits and drills across key waters in the Golden Triangle. Such drills are part of a larger bid to combat terrorism, smuggling, illegal immigration and drug trafficking in the region. (Yang Jing)
