E-commerce helps villagers get rid of poverty in Yunnan
Yuanyang in south Yunnan is famous for its terraces of thousand years old. In recent years, a unique “Rice-Fish-Duck” terrace farming mode has risen to its prominence. The mixed mode are introduced on the 9,884 acres terrace field, in which one third of them are for 2,700 poor farmer households.
Yuanyang red rice is rich in many nutrients, but its sales have been a big problem for rural households. Thanks to the e-commerce platform, Yuanyang red rice now has a new channel for to enter the market.
“Yuanyang e-store is featured with selling agriculture products. Over 1 million US dollars red rice has been sold online since last August when the store opened and helped 1,600 targeted poverty-alleviation households. At the same time, over 60 million red rice was sold offline that directly helped more than 5,000 poor households increase their incomes.
Today, Yuanyang red rice is sold to the big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and so on. However, this is just a small step. He Aihong, Yuanyang County governor, said that Yuanyang has “a rice dream”. Led by the red rice, the quality agricultural products of ducks, duck-eggs and bananas will go into a larger market to let more farmers get rid of poverty and move toward the well-off.
