282 Yunnan athletes compete in 13th National Games
The 13th National Games of China kicked off on Sunday drew a total of 822 athletes from Yunnan's twelve ethnic groups including Yi, Bai, Jingpo, Hani,and Naxi to participate in 21 sports in north China's Tianjin.
Liu Xianjing won the first gold medal for Yunnan delegation in men's mountain bike cross-country of cycling. So far, Yunnan athletes have won medals in marathon, boxing, go game, race walking, wushu and shooting contests.
The National Games is China's top comprehensive sport gala. Inaugurated in 1959, it serves as an important occasion for athletes to test their mettle for the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and to nurture future stars. The biggest-ever edition of the National Games will run through to September 8.
