A special event called “Focus on China” is taking on at the 74th Venice International Film Festival which opened on August 30 and will last to September 9.

During the event, Yunnan’s Lijiang City and Chengjiang County were appraised as two of the five “China’s Most Beautiful Shooting Locations”, together with Zigui in Hubei Province, Huangling Village in Jiangxi Province’s Wuyuan County and Zhangye in Gansu Province.

As far as Yunnan’s Lijiang City is concerned, it is located in the junction area of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet. In ancient times, Lijiang was an important passage along the Southern Silk Road and the Tea and Horse Road. Lijiang boasts a lot of cultural and natural landscapes like The Old Town of Lijiang, Dayan Old Town, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Laojun Mountain National Geological Park.

Among them, The Old Town of Lijiang was inscribed on the World Heritage List in December 1997. First built in the late Song Dynasty and the early Yuan Dynasty (the late 13th century), the Old Town of Lijiang epitomizes the local history, culture and customs. Its buildings have gone through countless vicissitudes.

Chengjiang is located in central Yunnan’s Yuxi County. It is the place where the charming Fuxian Lake is located. Attracting tourists from all around the world, Fuxian Lake is dubbed as the Lake Geneva in the East. The Chengjiang fossil site is situated in Maotian Mountain of Chengjiang County.

In July 2012, it became the only fossil site in China to be inscribed on the World Heritage List under the natural criteria. The Chengjiang zoolites are the most concentrated, best preserved and most diverse Early Cambrian fossil ruins that have been discovered so far.
