The 2017 China-ASEAN Forum on Disaster Prevention and Reduction & Sustainable Development (DPR&SD) opened Wednesday morning in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

As one of the sidelines of the 14th China-ASEAN Expo, the two-day forum aims to strength disaster-relating communications among academicians and officials in China, ASEAN states and other countries.

Guangxi Vice Governor Huang Weijing said at the opening that it is significant to encourage scientific innovation among folks and built up a Guangxi-ASEAN joint disaster response mechanism on land and sea, given the region's location.

Dang Vu Minh, President of the Vietnam Federation of Science and Technology, holds that Vietnam and China face various disasters and the governments have responsibility to prevent and reduce them.

Dang also lauded the warm-heartedness and hospitality of Nanning residents, saying thanks to China scientific organizations.

Taking his hometown as an example, Emmanuel Philippe ArseneGarnier, said France recently suffered from cyclones, forest fire and others, so international joint prevention and risk management are necessary. Emmanuel Philippe is the director of French National Institute.

Around 300 officials, scholars, academicians and related persons from more than ten countries attended the opening, including those from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and more.
