Base trains 11,800 workers for Mekong countries
China and the five Mekong countries have witnessed fruitful achievements in education and training, which is crucial to the development of industries and the improvement of people's livelihood.
Since December 2014, the China-ASEAN Education Training Center has provided vocational training to more than 11,800 people of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand, according to the Yunnan Minzu University.
As part of the Lancang-Mekong Vocational Education Base, the center has seven training branches in Yunnan border areas of Ruili, Malipo, Mengla, Menglian, Lincang Border Economic Cooperation Zone, Zhenkang and Cangyuan. Established by the university, the center was approved by China's Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Lancang-Mekong Vocational Education Base was proposed by Yunnan Minzu University, and the other parts of the base involve the Lancang-Mekong International Vocational Institute, the Lancang-Mekong Vocational Education Alliance,and more. The base has just got the nod from the second Lancang- Mekong Cooperation( LMC) Leaders' meeting.
The Lancang-Mekong International Vocational Institute is located in Ruili, Dehong Dai and Jinpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan. The foundation ceremony of this institute was just held in December last year. The institute will start its undergraduate programs for students of the five Mekong countries in 2019.
As for the Lancang-Mekong Vocational Education Alliance, it has already attracted 30 organizations to join in, including three universities of the Mekong countries.
According to the Five-Year Plan of Action on Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (2018-2022), vocational education and training will be strengthened, the establishment of Lancang-Mekong Vocational Education Base in China is supported, and branches of the Lancang-Mekong Vocational Education and Training Center will be set up in Mekong countries. The Lancang-Mekong vocational education cooperation is promising.
