Yunnan tourism garners 19.293 billion yuan during Spring Festival holiday

Yunnan tourism industry has generated an income of 19.293 billion yuan (about 3 billion U.S. dollars) during the week-long Spring Festival (the Chinese Lunar New Year) holiday, a year-on-year increase of 42.35 %.

According to statistics released by Yunnan tourism authority on Feb. 22, some 28.81 million trips by tourists were made across Yunnan, up 25.47 % year on year. 

22 major scenic areas in the province received more than 1.84 million trips, down 1.6% compared with the past year. 

Among them, the Jiulong Waterfall (230 thousand tourists, up 16%), the Fuxian Lake (199 thousand tourists, up 41%) and the Stone Forest (196 thousand tourists, up 4.9%) are top three destinations which received the most tourists during the New Year holiday. 

Traditional tourism regions remain popular. Kunming (7.83 million trips, up 33.7%), Honghe (3.82 million trips, up 24.3%) and Yuxi (2.32 million trips, up 8.5%) are the top three this year. 

Over 11.65 million vehicles entered or exited the province in the seven days, a year-on-year growth of 19.5%. 

10,534 flights were operated, transporting 1.31 million passengers. 1.94 million passengers chose to take trains and 318 thousand coaches were put into service in the travel rush, transporting 10.72 million passengers.

For Chinese people, Spring Festival means yearly family reunions as they mostly work in various places of the country. This year’s Spring Festival holiday lasts from Feb. 15 to 21.
