Yunnan organic vegetables sold globally

Located in southwest China, Yunnan Province is one of the five major commercial vegetable production bases in the country. In central Yunnan’s Yuanmou County, vegetables are not only sold to more than 100 cities in China, but also exported to Japan, Korea, Russia and other countries. 

In 2017, Yuanmou sold 508,000 tonnes of vegetables with the sales income reaching 1.52 billion yuan (about 241 million U.S. dollars). In addition, the county yielded 150,000 tonnes of grape, jujube and other fruits, generating an output value of one billion yuan (about 159 million U.S. dollars).

In the Dianlian Village, locals have developed three characteristic planting industries, namely tomato, jujube and grape. On average, each household in the village achieves an annual income of 200,000 yuan.

At present, the applying of the development model of “traditional agriculture + e-commerce” is in full swing in Yuanmou where there are a total of 51 online and offline vegetable selling centers. This year, the online sales are expected to reach 250 million yuan (about 40 million U.S. dollars).

Until now, the county has earned 61 certifications and accreditations in the terms of green, organic and pollution-free produces. And two of its produces have been accorded the Geographical Indications (GI) tags.
