A nine-compartment refrigerator train departed from the border town of Hekou May 7 and ran northward, carrying 7,960 boxes of dragon fruits imported from Vietnam.

Within five days, the Vietnamese fruits will appear all the way in the markets in Changsha, Zhengzhou, Beijing and other Chinese cities.

The operation marks Yunnan’s first train service that links in-land Chinese cities to an ASEAN country. And the International train service is expected to enable more ASEAN fruits to have easier access to the vast Chinese market.

Base on sales data in the past years, the dragon fruits, pineapples and rambutans from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have been popular among Chinese consumers.
