Horse racing to be held this June in Shangri-La
The 2018 Diqing • Shangri-La Dragon Boat and Horse Racing Festival will be held from June 18 to 20 in Shangri-La City, northwest Yunnan’s Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, according to a press conference on May 25.
This year’s festival will be bigger in scale and richer in content. Such activities as equestrian events, folk sports, intangible cultural heritage exhibition, calligraphy display and others are to be included during the three-day event.
The festival has been a carnival for tourists. Last year, over 170 thousand tourists visited Shangri-La during the festival, bringing the prefecture a tourism income of more than 86 million RMB.
Shangri-La City is the capital city of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and the Horse Racing Festival makes a solemn and traditional festival for the locals.
Apart from joining in numerous activities, the festival will also present local ethnic culture and natural scenery to tourists from home and abroad.
