The provincial government of Yunnan held a regular press conference on July 30, in which many data relating to the socio-economic development of the province in the first half of the 2019 was announced.

Figures indicate that Yunnan’s economy is currently running in a healthy and stable path.

In the first two quarters of this year, Yunnan realized a GDP of 795.7 billion yuan with an increase of 9.2 percent, which is 2.9 percent higher than the average national pace.

The fixed assets investment, total retail sales of consumers and foreign export have all experienced high rate growths with 9.1, 10.9 and 12.6 percent, respectively.

It is notable that there were 407 different projects (worth about 609.3 billion yuan) being signed during this year’s South and Southeast Asia Commodity Expo in Investment Fair (SSACEIF), the largest international business event being held annually in Kunming.

Yunnan has been the host of several conferences concentrating on digital economy in past months, including the 2019 Yunnan International Smart Tourism Summit in May and the Thailand-China Digital Economy Cooperation Forum in March.

With a national investment of 28.2 billion yuan, the construction of several highway and hydraulic projects were able to be speeded up.

Achievements were also made in poverty alleviation and sewage disposal. 33 previously impoverished counties have shacked off poverty so far this year; clear and portable water provision has been guaranteed to almost every township.

The provincial fiscal investment on health care, medical insurance and endowment insurance reached 34.9 billion yuan in the first two quarters of 2019. The registered unemployment rate remained at 3.12 percent, while the disposable personal incomes (DPI) grew separately by 8.2 and 9.8 percent in urban and rural areas.

In addition, progresses have been done in areas such as of food safety, disease control and prevention, as well as public security.
