International bird-watching week held in SW China's Yunnan
The 4th China Baoshan Gaoligong Mountain International Bird-Watching Week is being held from Wednesday to Sunday in the city of Baoshan, southwest China's Yunnan Province.
More than 200 bird lovers from nine countries including China, the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and Myanmar are participating in the event, according to its organizer.
During the five-day event, a series of activities will be held, including a bird-watching photography competition and an eco-tourism forum, aiming to show the biodiversity of Gaoligong Mountain and promote the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature.
Li Tingjin, director of the Administrative Committee of Gaoligong Mountain Tourism Resort in Baoshan, said the participants are scheduled to watch birds in Baihualing Village, Baoshan, located at the foot of Gaoligong Mountain.
Local people have made great efforts to protect the environment and promote the development and growth of the bird-watching tourism industry in recent years, he added.
The diversity of birds in the Gaoligong Mountain area is among the richest in China. There are 525 species of birds, accounting for 37.5 percent of the total bird species in China.
The mountain is also abundant in plant and animal resources.
