The first batch of medical workers from Yunnan was sent to Hubei province - the most affected areas of novel coronavirus outbreak in China - to provide medical aids in Xianning city on January 27.

Till February 27, a total of 1,156 medical personnel have been dispatched to Hubei by Yunnan province.

No new patients were reported in Xianning for six consecutive days between February 22 and 27, and as many as 644 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

On February 14, a female patient from Xianning gave birth to a healthy baby at hospital; and five days later on February 19, an elder patient aged 96 was completed recovered.

More importantly, recovered individuals - for the first time - outnumbered the patients who were still under treatment on February 23. This indicates that the spread of novel coronavirus has, to a large extent, be curbed.

The medical team from Yunnan comprises its most experienced doctors and nurses specializing in critical care medicine, respiratory and infectious diseases as well as disease control. And it’s worth mentioning that over 70 percent of them are females.

Apart from Xianning, medical workers from Yunnan have been allocated to several hospitals in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province and also the epicenter of this time’s coronavirus outbreak.

In addition, by working together with other virus test groups in Wubei, experts from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Yunnan province have in all completed a test of 10,516 coronavirus samples.

At present, all the members of Yunnan medical team are in good health. And as the tension of coronavirus goes down, the very first batch of Yunnan medical staff who have been working continuously for over a month will soon get chance to rest.
