The United Nations and China’s technology conglomerate Tencent announced a new and innovative global partnership in New York city yesterday on March 30, as one part to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the former.

As the entire world is combating the Covid-19 pandemic, Tencent plans to assist the UN to hold video conferences and digital dialogues with its member countries to discuss and solve global issues such as climate change and this on-going public health crisis itself.

Millions of people worldwide are expected to be engaged in these online conversations to share their thoughts on what the world should look like in the next 25 years.

“This partnership could not have been more timely and valuable. We are grateful to Tencent for their generous support to the UN75 initiative, and it has set an important example,” said Fabrizio Hochschild, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on the Preparations for the Commemoration of the United Nations’ 75th Anniversary.

“Global collaboration not only plays a vital role in human well-being and our future, but is also the key to fighting the current global pandemic. Therefore, Tencent is honored to participate and facilitate these conversations,” said Martin Lau, President of Tencent.

Those views and ideas generated through the conversations will be passed to world leaders during the 75th Session of the General Assembly which is scheduled to be held on September 21, 2020.
