“As the Covid-19 continues to spread, economies across the globe have suffered incredible slowdowns. The opening of the third China International Import Expo (CIIE), however, is an uplifting message to the world economy, because it guarantees every exporter’s access to the Chinese market,” said Anoop Ranjan Bhattarai, the president of Nepal-China Executive Council on November 5.

Mr. Bhattarai has been taking part in the CIIE since 2018. He said that exhibitors from Nepal hope to bring as many as Nepalese handicrafts, such as Buddhist statues, Thangka paintings, woodcarving arts as well as Cashmere shawls, to the expo because they are all very popular in China. “The number of Nepalese exhibitors this year is still high despite the pandemic.”

“China is now the world’s second largest economy, and the most dynamic market. This expo, therefore, is a vital platform to showcase our Nepalese products,” Mr. Bhattarai emphasized. Moreover, he expressed his expectation for big deals, as the expo is attended by Chinese importers from around the country.

What impresses Mr. Bhattarai the most is the preventive measures having been taken by the expo to protect participants from COVID-19. In his opinion, this year’s China international Import Expo of has set an example for any city that manages to host national and international events, including Kunming where the fifteenth meeting of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-15) will take place next year.

“China is willing tackle problems and create new opportunities with the rest of the world. And this has already been proved by its actions.”
