Airports across Yunnan see increase in passenger traffic
"In 2020, there were 436,000 flights, 49.837 million passengers as well as 369,000 tons of cargo and airmails arriving at and departing from airports across Yunnan in all, and the first two numbers exceeded the national average level,” says the Yunnan Aviation Industry Investment Group.
Among 15 civil airports in Yunnan, the ones in Licang, Cangyuan, Wenshan, Lugu Lake as well as Mangshi saw more than 15% of year-on-year growths in terms of cargo and airmail throughputs last year. And the Kunming Changshui International Airport made up 66% and 88% of the province’s passenger and cargo throughputs, respectively.
By 2020, these 15 airports have been safely operated for 17 consecutive years.
A newly-installed security system has helped improve the efficiency and reduce the cost of the Changshi International Airport, which even won the “2020 China Civil Airport Service Quality Excellence Award”.
Moreover, the Yunnan Aviation Industry Investment Group created a system called “Airbus Transport” and opened 26 short-haul air routes in order to meet the increasing travel demand within the province.
Now, this short-haul air route network has achieved full coverage of regional airports across Yunnan.
In terms of freight, as many as 18 new international cargo routes were opened by the Yunnan Aviation Industry Investment Group in 2020, with over 30 international cargo flights each week.
