Wangtianshu area double-visited by wild elephant from Laos
The Wangtianshu scenic area that lies near the China-Laos was visited by a wild elephant on the evenings of March 22 and 23 respectively.
“The elephants in the border area used to be afraid of humans and avoid entering touristy areas,” said a staff member at the Forest and Grass Bureau in south Yunnan’s Xishuangbanna. “Thanks to joint protective measures by China and Laos, some wild animals ceased to be afraid of people.”
The China-Laos nature reserve is located on the Indo-China peninsular with a high level of biodiversity. In a 2016 survey, a number of rare animals were spotted in the rainforest area, including the large Indian civet, the small Indian civet, bears, leopards and others.
