Focusing on eco-vegetables, clean energy and general health, central Yunnan’s Yuxi City is embarking on a road of green and healthy development.

Eco-vegetables good for health

In the Xiushan area of Tonghai County, central Yunnan’s Yuxi City, fields full of fresh vegetable are neatly divided into grids by ridges, forming a palette-like pattern.

Tonghai is a famed vegetable production hub in Yunnan, with 36 percent of its vegetables exported abroad.

Entering the Gaoyuan Agro-Products Company, visitors were impressed by bustling scenes of working transporting and processing fresh vegetables that will be soon sold to the domestic and overseas markets.

At the Tonghai eco-vegetable production cooperative, a smart phone can easily access relevant data and analysis that involve weather, soil, and others.

Clean energy conducive to carbon neutrality

In Yuxi’s Huaning county, Mt. Modou has grown to be a good place for leisure.

There, Huaning began building up its wind power plant in 2012 by joining hands with China General Nuclear Power Corporation.

One year later, the wind power plant was put to use, turning wind energy into electricity steadily.

The build-up of the Modou power plant optimized local energy structure, cutting the consumption of fossil fuels while lessening the environmental pollution.

Data shows the annual power production of the Modou wind plant is equivalent to that from 48,600 tons of coal or 400,000 cubes of water. Each year, the wind power plant helps cut CO2 emission by 92,600 tons and lime ash by 16,700 tons.

In 2018, the Yuxi-based Zhonghui company began to set up charging points for new energy vehicles, benefitting NEVs users a lot.

In the context of building Yuxi into a smart city, Zhonghui has now designed a public managing system for local energy, providing data and service in terms of energy monitoring and construction-site management.

General health services for all

In August 2020, Yuxi was home to 33 biomedical companies, each with a capital of over one million yuan.

The Winhey pharmaceutical company is now involved in medicine planting, development, production and marketing. Its pseudo-ginseng products are popular in China and other countries.

In March 2005, the Walvax Biotechnology Company was established, yielding remarkable fruits in Yuxi City.

Walvax has successfully developed nine vaccines that are sold to 30 plus provinces in China and exported to 13 countries like the US, Egypt, Indonesia and others.
