World-class Baihetan hydro project begins water storage
Baihetan dam, the world’s biggest hydropower project under construction, began its impounding on April 6, and all the units of the hydropower station will be put into operation in July 2021.
The hydropower station is situated at the juncture of southwest China's Sichuan Province and Yunnan Province. With the water head rising from 655 meters above the sea level to 775 meters, the dam will play its due role in flood control and discharge on the upper reach of the Yangtse River besides power generation.
Resettlement of the displaced residents on the Yunnan side was finished on March 25. “My 9-member family has got four new apartments ranging from 75 to 150 square meters, which are as beautiful as the county government offices,” said Qiu Shangyong, a resettler from northeast Yunnan’s Qiaojia County.
