88 Covid cases in Ruili, Longchuan are all Delta variant

Longchuan county and Ruili city, both bordering Myanmar in west Yunnan province, have reported a total of 88 locally transmitted Covid-19 cases as of July 26, all belonging to the Delta strain.

Yunnan health authorities deployed special equipments and medics to Ruili for the whole gene sequencing on July 5, shortly after a citywide nucleic acid testing that identified more locally transmitted Covid-19 cases in the border city.

WHO warned on July 14 that the Delta variant would become the dominant COVID-19 strain in coming months, and the ongoing gene sequencing in west Yunnan is playing its due role in the province's hard fight against the pandemic.
