COP15: Critically endangered plants found in Mengzi

A scientific expedition team with the Kunming Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently discovered three critically endangered species in the suburb of Mengzi city, South Yunnan’s Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture.
 
When entering a giant karst sinkhole, they found three rare plant species including Petrocosmea grandiflora, which have been missing in Yunnan for over a century.

According to experts, the rare plants reappeared thanks to local efforts in biodiversity conservation.
 
Around 270 new species are discovered every year in China. It is estimated that at least 5,000 species are yet to be discovered or scientifically named in the country.
