Go Deep in Lijiang: Athletes arrive for upcoming Yunnan Ethnic Games

The first stage of the 12th Yunnan Traditional Ethnic Games will officially start on June 12 in northwest Yunnan’s Lijiang city. The participating delegations from cites or prefectures in the province have arrived in Lijiang to check in successively these days.

Then athletes will compete in five events at the first stage, including wrestling, crossbow shooting, blowing gun, and spinning top.

There are 26 ethnic groups in Yunnan, and each has a distinct ethnic culture of their own and has a long history of communication and integration with others.

At present, there are more than 300 traditional ethnic sports that have been carried out in the province for a long time, accounting for more than 40% of that in China.

The Yunnan Traditional Ethnic Games is a comprehensive sports event held every four years.

The Games will be held in three stages this year：from June 9 to 18, June 24 to July 3, and September 20to 26.The opening and closing ceremonies will also be staged.
