Sclater’s monal spotted in Dehong

 

An unfamiliar blue-faced, gray-brown "big bird" was recently seen through an infrared camera by a staff member at the Tongbiguan nature reserve, west Yunnan’s Dehong prefecture.

The bird was later confirmed by experts to be the sclater’s monal, a species under first-class protection in China and a vulnerable species identified in the IUCN Red Book of Threatened Species.
