Thai rice to reach Chongqing via China-Laos railway

A train carrying Thai glutinous rice will be heading for south Yunnan's Mohan station on January 26 along the China-Laos railway, according to Alongkorn Ponlabutr, advisor to Thai agriculture minister.

With the destination being southwest China’s Chongqing, the Thai rice will spend 3 to 4 days on the international freight train. The rail freight is 4 times faster than traditional shipping by sea.

It is the first time for Thailand to use the new railway for export to China, and 500 tons of rice comes from Nongkhai, Thailand.
