Pu'er University rolls out programs for Int’l students
The Pu'er University based in southwest Yunnan’s Pu'er city has issued the 2022 International Students Admission Brochure, showcasing the university profile, programs offered, admission categories, application steps, campus sights, and more.

1. About us
Pu'er University (PU) is located in Pu'er City where the city is the traffic hub of Kunming - Bangkok highway in the south of Yunnan province linking three countries, and one river runs through five neighboring countries, also the city is known as 'the tea source of the world, and the tea city of China'. Established in 1977, PU started to enroll students in 1978. In March 2012, approved by the ministry of education, it was upgraded to a comprehensive undergraduate university. It is a demonstration university of applied undergraduate major cultivation and is one project of national universities construction. In 2020, PU successfully passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching conducted by the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China. In2022, PU passed smoothly the quality inspection and evaluation of education for international students in China organized by China Education Association for International Exchange.
PU covers an area of 2,053 mu, with an existing construction area of 273,300 square meters that includes 155,600 square meters of teaching and administrative rooms, 81,200 square meters of students’ dormitories, and 36,500 square meters of sports fields. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 94.9615 million yuan. There are 93 experimental training bases on campus, including 4 keylaboratoriesand engineering research centers approved by provincial education department, as well as 6 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms. The library has a building area of 22,200 square meters, a collection of 1,135,500 paper books, 1,438,200 digital resources, and 18 databases. There are some exhibition halls like Reduction Woodcut Boutique Museum, Biodiversity Science Education Hall (Provincial education base of popularization of science), and the Natural and Ecological Exhibition Hall of Asian Elephant.
The school adheres to implement the strategy of strengthening the school with talents and continuously enhance the construction of talent team. At present, there are 691 teaching and administrative staff including 501 full-time teachers and 123 part-time teachers; 50 staff with senior professional titles and 150 deputy senior professional titles; 499 teachers with doctoral and master’s degrees; 26 teachers with various titles, such as distinguished professor of the Yangtze River Scholar, candidate of National High-level Talent Program, teachers enjoying Special Allowance of the State Council, teachers enjoying Special Allowance of Provincial Government, Yunling Scholars, and Yunling Famous Teachers. PU employs 79 academic leaders and industry experts as visiting professors and distinguished professors. There are 177 full-time teachers with “double-qualified” certificates.
Relaying on geographical advantages, PU strongly promotes open education, and has set up the school of ASEAN Studies to manage international students, and established cooperative relations with more than ten famous universities and scientific research institutes, such as Capital University of Economics and Business, Yunnan University, Minzu University of China, Yunnan Minzu University, Hunan Agricultural University, Southwest University of Political Science & Law, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming branch of China Academy of Science, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of China Academy of Science, etc. The university cooperates with these universities and institutions to train international students at Master’s and Doctoral levels.
2. Undergraduate Program
Students who have graduated from high school may apply for a bachelor’s degree learning. PU has 42 undergraduate majors with five-year length of schooling, of which 1 year is for preparatory students (students who have passed the Chinese proficiency test and reached HSK Level 4 and above do not participate in the preparatory learning). The educational system for undergraduate lasts 4 years.
3. Type of Enrollment
Students supported by Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship
In 2022, PU will enroll international students qualified and supported by “Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship”, the supporting criteria are: student in preparatory education: 30,000 rmb/year/student; undergraduate student:35,000 rmb/year/student. Tuition and accommodation fees shall be paid by separately. The fees are: student in preparatory education: 20,000 rmb/year/student; undergraduate student: 24,000 rmb/year/student. The accommodation fee is charged according to the actual conditions of dormitory and the relevant national standards.
International students who apply for “Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship” are required to apply in accordance with the conditions of theYunnan Provincial Government Scholarship Administration Regulations.
Pu’er Municipal Government Scholarship
In 2022, PU will enroll international students supported by “Pu’er Municipal Government Scholarship”. Those students who are qualified will enjoy free tuition fees, accommodation fees on campus and textbook fees. Monthly living allowance including 10 months a year is granted to the students at RMB 600. The unmentioned expenses are for the student’s own account.
Lao Students who apply for “Pu’er Municipal Government Scholarship” should apply to the provincial department of education and department of sports; students from Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and other countries should apply directly to Pu’er University.
Simao District Government Scholarship
In 2022, PU will enroll Lao students (only limited to Phôngsali county in Phôngsali province) supported by “Simao District Government Scholarship”. Students who are qualified will enjoy free tuition fees, accommodation fees on campus and textbook fees. Monthly living allowance including 10 months a year is granted to the student at RMB 600. The unmentioned expenses are for the student’s own account.
Lao students who apply for “Simao District Government Scholarship” should apply directly to the Education and Sport Bureau in Phôngsali county.
Pu’er University Scholarship
In 2022, PU will enroll Lao students supported by “Pu’er University Scholarship”. Lao students who are qualified will enjoy free tuition fees and accommodation fees on campus. The unmentioned expenses are for the student’s own account.
Students who apply for “Pu’er University Scholarship” should apply to Pu’er University.
Self-financed student
In 2022, PU plans to enroll international self-financed students from Southeast Asian countries. All the fees are for the student’s own account.
Applicants should apply to Pu’er University.
Charge standards:
Student in preparatory education, 1 year learning, total tuition and accommodation fees are 20,000 yuan/year.
Undergraduate student, 4-year learning, total tuition and accommodation fees are 24,000 yuan/year.
International students from financially strapped families in Southeast Asian countries (excluding short-term trainees) can enjoy preferential tuition fees according to PU’s regulations, and their standards are as follow:
Student in preparatory education: 5,000 yuan/academic year
Undergraduate student: 6,5000 yuan/academic year.
4. Application Process
Application Requirements and Required Materials
(1) Applicants shall be in good health, aged between 18-45, and be willing to abide by the laws of the People’s Republic of China and rules and regulations of Pu’er University.
(2) Scanned copies of the highest degree certificates and transcripts for all courses at the highest academic level(Clearly scanned copies should be sent to specified mailbox when applying; and the original certificates should be provided when student come to school.)
(3) Physical examination record (Clearly scanned copies should be sent to specified mailbox when applying; and the original certificates should be provided when student come to school.)
(4) Scanned copy of passport with valid dates(Clearly scanned copies should be send to specified mailbox when applying; and the original certificates should be provided when student comes to school.)
(5) Financial support guarantee statement (Proof of financial guarantee issued by the bank or immigration office.)
(6) Scanned copy of international Chinese competence (HSK) certificate (students who has no the certificate should join the preparatory learning for one year.)
(7) Certificate of non-criminal record (Clearly scanned copies should be sent to specified mailbox when applying; and the original certificates should be provided when student come to school.)
(8) Colored identification photo with white background; Close up your head and top up your shoulders so that your face takes up 70-80% of the photograph; size is not less than 320*240 pixels with 4:3 aspect ratio; size for the electronic edition is 100-500 KB in JPG format named after the passport number. (Unqualified photograph will not pass the qualification examination. Please follow the requirements strictly and send to the specified mailbox.)
(9) Filling in the application form. (Please see attachment 1, and fill in the form. Please save the electronic form named after the full name of applicant, and send the form together with other application materials to the specified mailbox.)
(10) Letter of commitment should be signed with fingerprint. (Please see attachment 2. The letter should be printed out and then signed with fingerprint. Clearly scanned copies should be sent to specified mailbox when applying; and the original certificates should be provided when student come to school.)
The deadline for submission of materials: 17:00 of China time, October 15th, 2021. Please scan the materials mentioned above as attachments, and send to our mailbox. Qualification Examination
The school of ASEAN Studies is responsible for examining and verifying application materials of international students.
Admission
After the examination and approval, PU will issue the admission notice and handle the JW 202 form (Visa application form for study)
We will post the JW202 form and letter of admission to the students enrolled. (The school will inform student enrolled before posting. The post fees shall be afforded by student himself around 180-220 Yuan.)
Register
Student shall apply for the study visa with original JW202 form and letter of admission at Chinese consulate in his own country, and register at the school of ASEAN Studies of PU at the opening date of school term with the original application materials.
