Int'l design contest themed Lancang-Mekong Cooperation calls for entries
With a theme of “Weaving the Future”, the 2022 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation International Design Award has recently called for entries.
The contest is jointly organized by China Center for International Communication Development, International Bamboo and Rattan Organization, Central Academy of Fine Arts of China, Yunnan University of China, Yunnan International Communication Center for South and Southeast Asia, Bangkok University of Thailand, National University Laos, Royal University of Phnom Penh of Cambodia, Lanmei University of Cambodia, Fuqing Languange and Computer Center of Myanmar, and supported by Beijing MW Foundation.
This year, the contest has a specific focus on poster design, as well as bamboo and rattan weavings. Designers and design enthusiasts from Lancang-Mekong countries are encouraged to take part in the competition by submitting art works that celebrate the shared spirit and dream of peoples along the Lancang-Mekong River, and the constructive outcomes having been achieved through the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Mechanism throughout years.
Bamboo and rattan which symbolize flexibility, simplicity and solidarity are valuable inspirations for all designs.
Lyu Pinjing, Deputy Dean of the Central Academy of Fine Arts of China, has been invited to serve as the chairman of the jury, while jurors come from China, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.
This call for entries will be closed on October 31. Excellent organizations and individuals will be selected and awarded before the end of this year. Related exhibitions, award ceremonies as well as publications will come later, and winners will have chance to attend the 2022 World Bamboo Congress.
During the 7th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’Meeting held in Bagan, Myanmar in July 2022, a joint statement on deepening exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations within the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Framework was adopted as an effort to promote exchanges between cultural celebrities and mainstream cultural organizations in Lancang-Mekong countries and encourage support for and participation in international arts festivals organized by countries in the region.
Specifications
1. Poster
Both static and dynamic posters are acceptable. For the static poster, the file type should be JPG, jpeg or png; the color mode RGB; the resolution 300 dpi; and the size 297mm ×420mm (paper size A3). For the dynamic poster, the resolution should be no less than 1080 pixels with the file type either gif or MP4.
2. Bamboo and Rattan Weaving
Entries for this category should use tough plant fibers such as bamboo, rattan, wicker, and rush to make furniture, household items, and cultural and creative works. Such works should focus on the event theme and present the special qualities of the materials and features of the weaving skills. With bamboo and rattan as the main elements, other materials like metal, leather, glass, ceramics, wood, and fabrics are also encouraged for use, with no limitations on shape or structures.
Please submit pictures of overall design and parts of the work, photos of the work, and design descriptions. The file type should be JPG, jpeg or png; the color mode RGB; and the resolution 300 dpi.
In view of fairness, personal information including name (in Chinese, English or pinyin abbreviations), name of organization, and images and graphics associated with the author’s identity is not allowed to appear in the title and content of the entries.
3. Submission
Download the Entry Form (Information Sheet) from the “File Download”on www.lmcda.org.cn, fill out the form, and sent both the Entry Form and your work(s) to lmcda2022@163.com.
Each Individual or team can submit no more than three entries, and both single-work entry and a collection of works are acceptable. A single work or a group of works is regarded as an entry, and each entry should be submitted only once. Please fill in all the information in the Entry Form truthfully and completely, otherwise the submission is invalid.
All entries are free of judging and registration fees.
4. Copyright Notice
All entries must be original works, which must not be published in newspapers, magazines, websites and other media platforms, participate in other competitions, and be sold and used for profit before 31 October 2022. Participants must guarantee that you have adequate intellectual property rights in your entries and that you do not violate national laws and regulations and infringe on the intellectual property rights and other rights of third parties. Participants are responsible for the copyright issues involved in the content of your works.
In the event of plagiarism or infringements on the rights of others, your eligibility for the award will be disqualified and the prize money and award certificate recalled by the event organizer. Relevant legal liability arising therefrom shall be borne by the author.
The event organizer has the right to publish, display, and publicize the award-winning works for commercial purpose. Without authorization, no individuals or groups (including the author) are allowed to transfer, copy, reprint, disseminate, extract, publish, distribute, and license the award-winning works in any forms.
5. Awards
a) One Grand Jury Prize
Winner of the highest award of the competition will receive prize money of 20,000 yuan (before tax) and an award certificate.
b) Awards for the Poster and Bamboo and Rattan Weaving Categories
One First Prize: prize money of 10,000 yuan (before tax) award certificate
Five Second Prizes: prize money of 5,000 yuan (before tax) award certificate
Ten Third Prizes: prize money of 2,000 yuan (before tax) award certificate
Thirteen Excellent Works: award certificate
c) The jury will select and issue certificates of honor to individuals and organizations in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the event.
d) The award-winning authors will be invited to an award ceremony and their works will be displayed at exhibitions and published in albums. The award-winning works will also be displayed during the Second Global Bamboo and Rattan Congress (BARC 2022).
