With a designed speed of 350km/h, the Chongqing-Kunming railway is part of the national railway frame that consists of eight longitudinal rails and eight horizontal lines across China.
Also linking up the southwestern Chinese provinces of Guizhou and Sichuan, the Chongqing-Kunming railway began its construction in September 2019, and the 699km project is scheduled to be finished within six years.

Upon its completion, the Chongqing-Kunming railway is expected to cut the train trip between the two mega cities to a matter of two hours from the current four hours and a half.
And it will also allow Yunnan province to serve as a faster linchpin among China, ASEAN and South Asia.
