CIIE opens with world's biggest names

The China International Import Expo welcomed its fifth anniversary and kicked off the event in Shanghai on Friday, with six exhibition areas - Food and Agricultural Products, Automobile, Intelligent Industry and Information Technology, Consumer Goods, Medical Equipment and Healthcare Products as well as the Trade in Services sector.

Over half of the world's top 500 companies and industrial leading enterprises participate in the exhibition, and a total of 145 countries, regions and international organizations are taking part in the event.

At the Automobile sector, seven exhibits have made their Asia debut, among which is the Porsche Mission R, an all-electric vehicle for motorsports. The car can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in only 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 300km/h.

Tesla's humanoid robot, Tesla Bot, made its China debut during the expo, with the car manufacturers' major product line - Model S Plaid, Model X Plaid, Model 3, Model Y on display.

This time the expo has set up two special exhibit zones - Artificial Intelligence, covering 5,000 square meters, and Crop and Seed.

World's three leading seed companies, Bayer, Codihua and Syngenta, all are participating in the expo, showcasing their innovative technologies and solutions in breeding, planting, and mechanized production.

Wallace Chan, a renowned jewelry artist, is presenting his large solo exhibition at the fifth CIIE for the first time, with more than 150 jewelry creations worth nearly 560 million yuan ($77.39 million), including the stellar brooch sculpture Stilled Life that wowed audiences at the 2012 Antiques Biennale in Paris, where he was the first Chinese artist to participate.
