Baisha Ancient Town is the birthplace of "Tusi", chief of the Mu clan in northwest Yunnan’s Lijiang and also an important part of Lijiang Old Town, a UNESCO world cultural heritage. Located in Baisha township of Yulong Naxi autonomous county, Baisha Mural Museum houses 45 murals covering a total area of about 144.77 square meters in the ancient buildings built in the Ming (1368 to 1644) and Qing Dynasties (1644 to 1911).

Baisha frescoes were created during 300 years from the early Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty, and they blended the multi-ethnic artistic style of Han, Tibetan, Bai, Naxi and others. Painted with exquisite brushwork, various colors and realistic figures, the pictures showed the inclusiveness of Naxi people, which is of great value for studying Naxi history and art.

In recent years, the museum has applied modern technology to protecting Baisha frescoes, paving way to the future research, conservation and inheritance.
