Shiping tofu grows to be profitable business

Shiping county of south Yunnan province’s Honghe Hani and Yi prefecture, is famous for its high-quality and diverse tofu snacks. In the past, it was hard to raise the output and value of the soft Shiping tofu, which is fragile and easy to go bad during transport. To expand the tofu business, effective measures were taken and turned tofu into a industry.

At the beginning of 2020, a special kind of tofu called molten lava tofu went viral online. Therefore, many tofu producers in Shiping began to produce it.

Then, in February this year, Shinping’s own public brand, Shipinxian brought products to the live-stream room. The products were sold out in very short time with more than 5,000 orders. The sales reached 200,000 yuan. The number of concurrent audience exceeded 100,000 and viewed the products for more than 1.3 million times.

In the standard production workshop of Yunnan Xinchen bean firm, automatic equipment has taken the place of human work. Only a few processes still need workers, like curdling the bean milk with gesso at a certain temperature. Thus, the machines increased both efficiency and output.

Now, Shiping county has 60 bean product enterprises with an output of 351.6 thousand tons in 2022 and the annual value of output reached 4.335 billion yuan.
