At the port of China-Vietnam border in Hekou Yao autonomous county, southeast Yunnan province, the first wave of guests arriving each day are Vietnamese border residents who come to China for business or employment. Some of them shuttle on the same day, while others obtain temporary residence permits and choose to live in China.

Ly Sa So, a 23-year-old Vietnamese girl born in the 2000s, crossed the border early in the morning and went directly to work at the Hekou Sutao Trading Co., Ltd. after passing through customs.

"Life is so convenient in China. We can use WeChat and Alipay for payments,” said Ly, “and what I like most about China is that you can order takeout anytime you're hungry. Transportation is excellent as many shared bicycles are available. What’s more, the delivery is cheap for online shopping. "

The trading company where Ly works has expanded its international trade business under the Belt and Road Initiative, creating more employment opportunities for neighboring countries. There are more than 40 Vietnamese employees in the company just like Li. Their main task is logistics tracking, information coordinating, and cargo handling.

Ly frankly said that choosing to work in China not only offered her a higher salary than in Vietnam but also allowed her to learn more about trade. She hopes to acquire more knowledge in China and can do trade herself in the future.
