Yunnan's total import and export volume has increased by 16.3 percent annually in the past five years, with the investment introduced into the province growing by 15.7 percent, according to a recent provincial government work report.

The report was delivered by Yunnan governor Wang Yubo on January 11 at the opening meeting of the ongoing first session of the 14th Yunnan Provincial People's Congress, the province’s legislature.

The report pointed out that in the past five years, Yunnan’s location advantages have become more prominent. The China-Laos railway was opened to traffic, and the provincial expressway sections that link China to Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar were all completed.

A new sea-road-rail freight route that links up China, Myanmar and the Indian Ocean was put into full operation. Among the Chinese provinces, Yunnan has opened the most air routes to cities in South Asia and Southeast Asia, and the province has established 12 multilateral and bilateral cooperation mechanisms with nine countries.

The China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone was established, and the Mohan town near the China-Laos border was put under direct administration of Kunming, Yunnan’s provincial capital city. Yunnan has increased cooperation with the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.
