Participants at the 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum

During the just-concluded 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum (TCSF), 29 booths were specifically set up in the middle of the meeting venue, including 17 booths for major achievements in cutting-edge technology and 9 for achievements by China Association for Science and Technology.

The leading liquid-metal products, the perennial rice that Science magazine listed as a top 10 scientific breakthrough and the 108-language translation machine are among the game-changing technological products that attracted attention from global professionals.

Guo Huadong, academician at Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals

As the initiator of the digital Silk Road international science program, my team and I have studied the Belt and Road Initiative for many years. Rested on the Big Earth Data project, we acquire and process data from remote sensing satellites and navigation satellites, working on environment, resources, cities and oceans.

Guo added Big Earth Data is crucial for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. "We firmly believe that our country can make it by 2030."

Liu Zhijie, academician at the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences and executive director at the iHuman Institute of ShanghaiTech University

The development of non-life disciplines, especially technological breakthroughs in mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science, will definitely push ahaed breakthroughs in life sciences, said Liu.

The present AI is a greatest breakthrough in human history, which will significantly impact on our health and the progress of human civilization. Specifically, equipped with AI, our research on drug development can be more accurate, saving money and time. The importance of AI can never be overestimated.

Yin Ye, CEO and executive director of Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) Group

BGI has been cooperating with Yunnan for many years and has carried out a lot of scientific research and industrial applications. In agriculture, we’re working with Yunnan University on a perennial rice, which, if grown widely, would solve global problem on food security.

"We also joined hands with Yunnan localities in cultivaing graduate students. BGI is striving to make precision medicine inclusive, so that genetic testing can be more accessible to the general public," said Yin.
