The United States' so-called Indo-Pacific Strategy is fundamentally about building a clique, provoking conflict, sowing disunity, and creating the "NATO of Asia" to contain China, thus it is doomed to fail, Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Tuesday when asked about how the US strategy would impact Asia.

"Such attempt will only disrupt the ASEAN-centered, open and inclusive regional cooperation architecture and undermine the overall long-term interests of regional countries," he added.

Qin said he has noticed leaders from regional countries voicing that ASEAN should not be a proxy for any foreign party and should stay clear from big power rivalry.

"Asia should be a stage for win-win cooperation rather than a chess board for geopolitical contest," Qin said. "No Cold War should be reignited in Asia and the Ukraine crisis would not repeat here."
