Moon cakes come into market for coming festival

The 15th day of the eighth month on Chinese lunar calendar is the Mid-Autumn Festival.

As a traditional occasion that has been celebrated by Chinese folks for thousands of years, the festival carries the plain ideas of peace, happiness and family reunion, symbolized by a full moon.

Moon cakes are essential on this day for people take their round shape as a sign of “reunion”. It is the very day for the whole family to stay together, admiring the full moon tasting the nice cakes.

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the fragrance of moon cakes has been wafting around bakeries in Kunming, Yunnan province. Now the cakes are sold in bulk in local markets.

This year, the low-GI yolk moon cakes with lotus seed paste and the five-nut cakes of low sugar and fat are preferred by consumers. The new moon cakes are better for health and more nutritious.
