Rose seeds arrive in Kunming after space trip

Some seeds that have been aboard the Shenzhou-12 spacecraft for more than 3 months, arrived at Kunming, Yunnan province a few days ago. They are hybrid rose seeds of 21 types weighting 101.8 grams.

Researchers at the Yunnan Jinke Flower Engineering Center Company will sterilize the seeds and refrigerate them for 90 days. Finally, they hoped to get seedling plants through pregermination and sowing.

He Qiong, executive vice general manager of the company, said that flower breeding with the help of space technology is a new step forward in the research and development of new varieties of Yunnan flowers.

“It’s of great significance to grow high-quality flowers with independent intellectual property right,” noted Li, adding the seeds are expected to hit the market 4 years later.
