Liu Zhengxiong, director of the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, said the excavations since last year have uncovered cultural deposits mainly from the Han dynasties.

“The relics include building sites, ash pits, tombs, river channels and wells, and more than 2,000 cultural relics such as sealing clay and bamboo scripts, bronze, iron, bone, jade and stone tools were found,” Liu added.

The Yunnan findings will provide clues for the research of the county government of Yizhou county established in the Western Han Dynasty (202 B.C.-8 A.D.) and are hard evidence for the formation and development of the multi-ethnic nation.
