Clout Magnet: Yunnan achieves a lot in science

The 6th Yunnan Conference on International Exchange of Professionals (YCIEP) will be unveiled in two days on November 12.

Yunnan, a province of leap-frog development, is longing for talents and innovation more than ever before.

Let's first take a look at some major scientific facilities based in Yunnan.

National Museum of Plants

Located in central Yunnan’s Panlong district, National Museum of Plants is the first Chinese museum themed on plants. It combines traditional exhibition with living-plant collection, displays with research, and traditional culture with general health.

CAS Tianyuan Mathematics Center

The Tianyuan Mathematics Center under China Academy of Sciences (CAS) is located in central Yunnan’s Yiliang county, and it will be a top-three mathematics center in the world upon its completion. Tianyuan is expected to be an international research and communication platform, aiming at fast growth of mathematics in China and serving the mathematics community with advanced concepts.

Jingdong 120m Pulsar Radio Telescope

A cooperation between CAS and Yunnan, the Jingdong 120-m pulsar radio telescope (JRT) is a major project for national science and technology. After completion, the telescope will be the world’s largest fully steerable radio telescope. With the pulsar observation taking the lead, it will stand out in global observations by large-aperture radio telescopes.

These achievements are inseparable from the efforts by talents settled in Yunnan, as well as the favorable policies to invite in and hire talents.

In February 2022, Yunnan rolled out the Implementation Opinions on Strengthening and Improving Yunnan’s Talent Support in the New Era, the Implementation Measures of Talents Support Plan for Yunnan’s Revitalization, and the Ten measures for Talents Support to Modern Industrial Development.

These favorable policies have paved the way for talents to gather in Yunnan, and with diverse channels open wide, the province will usher in international professionals in bulk.
