Clout Magnet: What makes Yunnan attractive to talents?
What makes Yunnan attractive to talents? How to attract more talents to Yunnan? How to make talents stay and settle in Yunnan?
These three questions are the hottest issues discussed in the 6th Yunnan Conference on International Exchange of Professionals (YCIEP)
Here are the words from the experts and scholars present at the conference:
Hu Jinming:Vice President of Yunnan University, Executive Vice President of Southwest United Graduate School
“Administrators” should have the consciousness of being “servers”
Yunnan is located in the southwest frontier of China, which is served as the gateway of China's opening-up to South Asia and Southeast Asia. The biggest highlight of Yunnan's talent introduction is to build a new highland and regional center for talents by integrating its own resources and regional advantages, developing leading research areas and constructing a modern industrial system with Yunnan characteristics.
The administrators need to convert their mindset from being a "manager" to a "server", which will truly serve the talents.
Yu Jinzhi:Professor of School of Literature in Yunnan Normal University, Doctoral supervisor of Southwest United Graduate School
"Introducing Yunnan’s resource advantages to more people"
When introducing talents, "Yunnan’s three positionings" should be fully taken into account. The province should strive to become a demonstration area of national unity and progress, a vanguard of ecological civilization construction, and a radiation center facing South Asia and Southeast Asia. "With a decent working and living environment, more talents will choose to start their businesses in Yunnan.
Yunnan has its unique resource advantages. Ethnic, cultural, biological and natural diversities have brought more talents to this land. Yu suggests that Yunnan’s resource advantages should be introduced to more people, so that talents can genuinely see Yunnan's uniqueness.
Ma Tengyue:Distinguished Professor and Doctoral supervisor from School of Ethnology and Sociology, Yunnan University
"Turning universities into a high-level industry"
Around the world, there are many universities located in places with pleasant weather and environment. With advantages of Yunnan's natural resources, it is feasible to turn higher education with good quality into a new industry. Our priority is to bring in good teachers around the world. Developing universities into a high-level industry is also a very necessary measure.
Xiao Weilie:Professor from the Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry for Natural Resource (Yunnan University), Ministry of Education
"Attracting more talents and making them stay"
In recent years, Yunnan has issued a series of talent introduction policies to bring more experts to the province. The weather and environment are elements to make them stay. Meanwhile, many universities have increased their fundings and built more research platforms. These measures have helped us attract experts from both home and abroad. In order to make the talents stay, we should continue to improve our services.
