Go Deep in Lijiang: A harmony of man and nature in Lijiang old town

Lijiang is a place where many ethnic folks live together. 12 ethnic groups have settled here for generations, bringing about diverse ethnic cultures. The unique dwellings here is an important part of the ethnic cultures.

The harmonious integration of man and nature is showed by the perfect coordination of man, nature, and architecture in Lijiang ancient town.

The town has a long history. The views here are natural and diverse. It has both the views of water towns and mountain city. Its overall landscape is of three mountains surrounding like screens and everything in it is connected by a river. In great order, the dwellings are built at the foot of the mountains and along the river.

The ancient streets and lanes are not of grid style. They are freely distributed along the river of which some parts are twisted while others straight. The dwellings were built in accordance to the bumpy terrain.

The ancient town, the willows and the river have altogether showed the view of life of Naxi folks. They respect nature and live a harmonious life with nature.
