Go Deep in Lijiang: World heritage status commemorated in Mufu
The commemorating meeting of the 25th anniversary of the Old Town of Lijiang's listing as a World Heritage site and the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention was held on Dec. 20 in the Mufu palace of NW Yunnan’s Lijiang city.
In December of 1997, in Naples, Italy, UNESCO inscribed the Old Town of Lijiang on the "World Heritage List" at the 21st session of the World Heritage Committee. The Old Town of Lijiang thus became the first World Cultural Heritage site in Yunnan and the first historical and cultural city in China to be inscribed on the List.
For 25 years, the Old Town of Lijiang has been abiding by the World Heritage Convention and has been a world-famous tourist destination.
