Fishing festival marked in Menglian

Known as the "oriental water carnival", the Holy Fish Festival is celebrated April 11-14 in Menglian Dai, Lahu and Wa autonomous county, southwest Yunnan’s Pu’er city. The occasion has gained popularity among locals for its participatory nature.

During the festival, thousands of people jointly caught the sacred fish in the Nanlei river after fishing had been long prohibited. Later, ethnic shows were staged, such as Dai martial arts, boat racing, bamboo rafting, and more.
