Taking tea as their totem, the De'ang people plant, drink, cook tea and give it as a gift. Tea is indispensable in their daily life.

The sour tea represents traditional craftsmanship of the De'ang ethnic group. Having picked tea from trees, they buried it in soil for fermentation and boiled it in bamboo tubes. The tea has a light flavor with a hint of sourness, bitterness and sweetness. It’s good for heat-clearing and digestion.

Yao just visited the Chudonggua village in west Yunnan’s Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture, looking into the tea’s role in the health of De'ang villagers.
