Fitness consumption sees dramatic growth

As the concept of national fitness becomes more widely accepted, new attractions for Chinese people's sports consumption have emerged, such as purchasing sports equipment, participating in sports training, experiencing fashion sports, watching sports games, renting sports venues, and so on.

Data from the Department of Economics of the General Administration of Sports of China (GASC) suggest from 2015 to 2019, the total size of sports, fitness, and leisure in China increased from RMB 27.69 billion to RMB 179.66 billion, an increase of 548.83%.

The success of the Beijing Winter Olympics boosts China's ice-snow economy. According to Peng Weiyong, vice director of the Department of Economics of GASC,ice/snow-themed tourists in China reached 312 million in the 2021-2022 snow season.

With a tourism revenue of 390 billion yuan, snow tourism this season represented a 44.4% increase over the 2016-2017 snow season.

Today, outdoor sports such as mountaineering, cycling, and frisbee are thriving. Football, basketball, badminton, swimming, and other traditional fitness programs continue to gain popularity.

Aside from exercise, Chinese consumers paid more attention to participating in sports activities and watching sports events, with their sports lives becoming more diversified.
